Happy 2nd Birthday Elizabeth Grace!

Last night I laid my one year old down and awakened my two year old this morning. These past two years have been an absolute delight and I am so thankful for the blessing of my sweet Elizabeth Grace.

"Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change." James 1:17

Bye, mommy

Elizabeth loves to play the goodbye game. It requires her grabbing keys, a baby, sometimes dragging Hannah's car seat, and giving mama a kiss. It is my favorite game as of late.

This time she put on my shoes.

**note to self: remind silent while filming. does anyone else hate the way they sound on video? I mean really.

cow-lick?

Ok. What I am meaning to say is this: I can hardly do Elizabeth's hair and it is normal. It is going to be so much harder if Hannah has a cow lick. Sorry that was so confusing.

Ahh...I'm struggling to fix Elizabeth's hair, much less some hair that looks like it has some cow licks in it. I wished I had taken a hair class in school...

brain-dumpage

Excuse the semi-randomness of this post. It's basically a brain dump and some of the many things weighing on my heart lately.
  1. I know I'm a little biased, but really, Elizabeth is the cutest thing ever.
  2. I was really nervous about the growth of the our family and how I would adjust, but God has been very gracious to me. I think the transition has gone really smooth and a lot easier than I was expecting. But for those who have asked that question "how are you adjusting as a mom of two?" ask me again when Hannah becomes more mobile. I may be humming a different tune.
  3. In just thinking about being a mom, I realize how indispensable Elizabeth has been to me for my sanctification. I honestly thought I would be amazed at how early sin rears it's ugly head in my toddler, but I have been more amazed (or disgusted) about the ugly sin that has surface from myself. Motherhood is wonderfully hard, and daily I realize how inadequate I am to be a gospel-centered mom. I pray that He would lavish His grace on me. I am certainly desperate and needy.
  4. Is Elizabeth really almost 2? I know--almost 2 today, and on the way to prom tomorrow.
  5. Hannah Kate has been a delightfully easy baby. She started sleeping from 11-8 at 4 weeks, and she rarely cries. Sleep has been good for me.
  6. Hannah is almost 2 months. I can't believe that either.
  7. In thinking about Hannah, I can't help but to think of my friend Audrey. She gave birth to her firstborn son, Zachary, around the same time as me. Zachary died 5 days later. When I heard this, I was a glob of emotions (and still am.) I wanted to cry and cuss all at the same time. "THIS ISN'T THE WAY IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE!" It's not supposed to be this way. It's not. This advent season, I am longing more than ever for Christ to return. I am longing for that Holy City, the New Jerusalem to come down from Heaven. The place where creation no longer groans, death is finished, tears are forever non-existant. Where Christ, our bridegroom comes, and we fully understand and feel (as we ought) the marvelous effect of His blood-bought gospel... where we are eternally satisfied and our joy is made complete. The place where some mothers won't feel the grieving absences of their children, because there they are together, forever in the radiance of Jesus Christ. Yes, come quickly Lord.

Sesame Street Remix

When little mama's not hard at work caring for her young one, then she is hard at work working on her singing career.

This is her current inspiration.

Little Mama

My little mama hard at work...

Creating a double stroller for her babies...

Grooming and feeding her baby...

Making sure her baby naps...

blogging about her baby...

and of course, making sure her baby is BFF with baby Hannah.

...all through town.

Here is our version of the Wheels on the Bus (with a bit of a 'tude), sung by yours truly...

**sorry granna, I tried to get her to say "hey baby" or "i see you", but you can see what she always resorts back to...

oops

A friend of my family used to tell everyone (including the boys I had crushes on) that he knew me since I was running around in a saggy diaper. Apparently Elizabeth is carrying on that family tradition...

one rested mama...

I know that a rested mama seems impossible with a 2 week ago baby, but honestly, I have gotten a lot of sleep. Hannah-Kate is such a laid back baby, babywise is working like a charm, and well, my husband is simply amazing.

Elizabeth has a new love...

She asks for him when she wakes up in the morning. She asks for him throughout the day. It would almost be annoying how many times I hear his name, if she didn't say it so sweetly. I'll let her tell you what is currently making her heart sing...(even if it is messing up hers and mine naptime.)

And just so you can hear how close she is to actually knowing the whole song, here it is:

She is here...

...Hannah Katherine Parnell, of course.

Thanks to all who have been praying for us and the arrival of our precious Hannah-Kate. She made her grand entrance at 3:12am this morning (Oct. 25). She weighed 6 lbs 7 oz and was 20 inches long--the exact size of her big sister.

So when is this baby coming?!

Okay. Cast your predictions of when this baby will make her grand entrance in the world and how much you think she will weigh.

FYI-if you put past my due date (Oct. 26) I will probably not consider you a friend for the rest of my pregnancy. (only half way kidding)

She likes it.

Remember not that long ago I posted this picture...

Well...

...Jon isn't the only one doing these kind of 'hold your breath' things. Abraham just wrote a blog about it and posted their 'up in the air' pictures.

Go Cardinals!

In efforts to help the time pass in our 'waiting for a baby' season, this is how our little family has been spending our time...

...pulling for the Cardinals of course.

October is always a special time for our family. The Cards won the World Series in Oct. 06; Jon proposed 2 days later; MLB postseason starts every October, and now our due date is in October. I'll let you guys figure out which things come first to Jonathan's mind when he thinks of October and which come to mine. (only kidding, sweetie!) :)

A little stroller fun

One day I walked into my livingroom to find a pile of pillows in the middle of the floor. Later I discovered this is the reason for it.

Oh the fun things daddy creates for the two of them.

** the falling out of the stroller is *always* dramatized. no one was hurt in the making of this film.

Our Return back to the City

When Elizabeth and I went back home to surprise my mom for her 50th, it was our first time ever leaving Jonathan. I am not sure if we will be allowed to leave again. :)

I knew Elizabeth was going to be excited to see her daddy since she had asked for him all week. Being like any camera-happy mom, I wanted to capture the moment on video. Excuse the hand in the camera and Elizabeth's 'lovely' face at the end. Jon wanted a kiss. And Elizabeth, well, she's not much for sharing her daddy.

Surprise!

This past week Elizabeth and I flew in for my mom's 50th birthday. My brother paid for us a ticket and we headed down to NC to surprise her. I had everything figured out with how the surprise would go. Little did we know that my mom surprised us. She never give gets home from work as late as she did that night. It was almost 8:15 before she rolled into the driveway. We only waited for 2 hours, hiding in the subdivision waiting for her to stroll in. It was dark, but I tried to capture the moment anyway. Here it is:

If I would have continued to record, my mom said, "There ain't no way! I know you..I know you!" Apparently she thought the little girl she heard on the porch was a random neighbor child wanting to sell her something.

We (my brother, Jon and I) took bets on how my mom would respond. Jon was a little dramatic as he predicted she would pee on herself and then pass out. My brother and I thought she would cry.

and cry she did. We had a great time pulling off the surprise and spending time with family. I think I was a bit insane to travel 32 weeks pregnant with a toddler all by myself. Needless to say, I am feeling the oxymoron of vacation--I still need more rest!

One crazy baseball swing

Someone sent Jonathan this video awhile back.   Although it's neat, I just know that something is bound to break with my accident prone husband attempting to do this.

Natural-Child birth vs Epidural

This is how I (playfully) want to respond when someone asks if I am going to have a natural delivery or get an epidural.

18 months going on 20.

"Too big for your own britches, " is what I say a lot to Elizabeth.  Her independent desires make her feel like she is well beyond her year.  Apparently she took this saying a little too literally.

**she put them on all by herself.

Elizabeth's Bear Transformation...

Once upon a time...

Jonathan gave me a Build-Bear doused  sprayed with his cologne.  It was completely dreamy to a 16 year-old love-sick girl.  In recent days, poor Bear, as Jonathan creatively named him, has been dragged everywhere by an overly-loving little toddler.  Elizabeth cannot do without him at times.

Since Bear has worn the same outfit for the past six years, we decided to buy a new one for him.  Tell me if you can guess who picked it out.

Here are some shots of the before/after pictures of Bear. (notice his cute little undies..I forgot he even had those!)

If anyone really knows Jonathan, they know he is not big on things changing.  Since Jon and Elizabeth are a lot a like, I had a slight fear once we changed Bear's clothes that she would no longer like him....

...But she did.

And so did he.

Oh, and if you guessed it was Jonathan that picked out the clothes, you were correct.
